Research published in JAMA (Mandsager et al., 2018, N=122,007) found that cardiorespiratory fitness is the strongest predictor of long-term survival — stronger than cholesterol, blood pressure, or BMI. According to the study, the least-fit individuals had 5× higher all-cause mortality risk than the top performer group.
